Marking papers for money
Some examiners did so in January, although that option is not available anymore with most exam boards, and I would have struggled to cope with the workload in January. However, several of the examiners I know have children and they told me that they relied heavily on the support of their spouse or family members.

There were some answers I really struggled with as they were borderline between boundaries or difficult to read illegible answers are a problem so I would email my team leader either with a picture of the answer for a second opinion or to ask general questions. These are peer assessed using an adaption of the mark scheme and it is here that my knowledge of examining can be used to ensure students have understood what the examiners are looking for and do not make common mistakes. It is undoubtedly a huge workload to complete X amount of exam papers in Y amount of time. Some require applicants to possess a current teaching certificate while others do not. My own ability to assess has massively improved, especially as the standardisation process gave me an opportunity to check my own skills against a range of pre-marked answers from candidates of differing abilities. As briefly mentioned, most exam boards ask examiners to input results online — should exam papers get lost a record of results are online and there is a database to check any exam results if necessary. Positions at CES offer a lot of flexibility. In addition to hiring Evaluators, CES also hires freelance writers and voice actors. Their projects include test items in English Language Arts, mathematics, science, and other areas. It involves attending the examiners conference usually in London, Cardiff or other city. That said, I often feel like I lose any semblance of family and social life for at least a couple of weeks, especially because my school responsibilities continue so I have to consign marking to evenings and weekends.
